March 11th... or May 11th?

WOW! What a BEAUTIFUL day. I can hardly believe it is March 11th... it felt like it was at least 60 degrees, and not a cloud in the sky. So, needless to say, we took advantage of the weather and went letterboxing...

We picked up three out of the five boxes in Island Lake State Park, in Brighton, MI. The walks were all decently long (and made us realize how out-of-shape we are, after a winter of non-boxing!). We were first finds on the Spring Mill Pond box (sorta... it is a replacement book) and enjoyed the quiet walk to Trout Lake. It really is a hidden "gem" of a lake. Puff The Magic Dragon's New Home was fun, although we were pretty sure it was originally a series and there is only one box listed now. Does anybody know the story on this? We tried to get the Island Lake box, but wouldn't you know it? There was a troop of Boy Scouts being good citizens and cleaning up the leaves ~ right where the box was! D'oh! So, we'll have to pick that one up another time, as well as the Horseshoe Pond box, which we ran out of time for.

We finished off the day with a late lunch at a Coney Island and headed home... still marveling at the weather. Here's to many more beautiful days and as many letterboxing adventures as we can cram into them! :-)

Ireland

Was beautiful! We had a great time... but if you want to see pics or get an idea of what we did, you will need to visit J’s other blog here. Why? Because J is lazy and doesn’t feel like posting the same pics twice!!

So, the burning question is, did we letterbox while in Ireland? Sadly, the answer is no. When we were making plans for the trip we fully intended to do so. But as the plans were finalized, we decided not to rent a car and let our friends that we were visiting do all the driving (weren’t they sweet to do so?). And then we felt guilty about dragging them around the country to participate in a hobby that they couldn’t care less about. A brief ray of light for our letterboxing plans appeared when we decided to spend one day in Dublin. We noticed that LBNA listed several boxes in Dublin. Hurray! But, on a closer examination of the boxes, we saw that Ducks in Dublin #1 and #2 were being updated, and that Ducks in Dublin #5 wasn’t actually IN Dublin (remember, we didn’t have a car and took the train into the city...)... which just left Trinity College Dublin. J had actually visited Trinity College several times before this trip, and found it doubtful that the box was still in its place. It is a very busy area. Thus, we made the decision that the possibility of a single box just wasn’t worth bringing our letterboxing gear along. Sigh. Are we letterboxing losers, or what?? :-)

As for our Bingo status... in the entire time we were gone, we didn’t get a single word! Guess we didn’t need to worry about coming home to a full Bingo card!
