March 11th... or May 11th?

WOW! What a BEAUTIFUL day. I can hardly believe it is March 11th... it felt like it was at least 60 degrees, and not a cloud in the sky. So, needless to say, we took advantage of the weather and went letterboxing...

We picked up three out of the five boxes in Island Lake State Park, in Brighton, MI. The walks were all decently long (and made us realize how out-of-shape we are, after a winter of non-boxing!). We were first finds on the Spring Mill Pond box (sorta... it is a replacement book) and enjoyed the quiet walk to Trout Lake. It really is a hidden "gem" of a lake. Puff The Magic Dragon's New Home was fun, although we were pretty sure it was originally a series and there is only one box listed now. Does anybody know the story on this? We tried to get the Island Lake box, but wouldn't you know it? There was a troop of Boy Scouts being good citizens and cleaning up the leaves ~ right where the box was! D'oh! So, we'll have to pick that one up another time, as well as the Horseshoe Pond box, which we ran out of time for.

We finished off the day with a late lunch at a Coney Island and headed home... still marveling at the weather. Here's to many more beautiful days and as many letterboxing adventures as we can cram into them! :-)

Dear J & B,

I'm glad you enjoyed the Island Lake area! I live nearby and planted the 5 boxes. Yes Puff was originally part of a series (the other 4 boxes lead you to the lakes that were his "gems") but it worked much better as 5 seperate boxes. The original Spring Mill Pond was never found by any boxers, I found it destroyed shortly after placement so I had to find a more secure spot and recarved the stamp. Horseshoe Pond is a fairly decent trek so leave a little extra time for that one! Happy Boxing!
